Is the Matt Hancock affair the UK equivalent of Anthony Fauci emails? Both Hancock & Fauci were major forces for lockdown in countries where powerful political factions are pushing for an end to pandemic restrictions.

I think you're assuming that they are trustworthy and that they will follow through with what they say. Johnson said that it was set in stone that all would open up on 21st June but then they changed it at the last minute.
the statements, whether or not they’re followed through on, are a clear attempt to appease an opposition of some kind
