I don’t even understand the claim on its own terms sounds like the idea was, if droplets —> use distancing, but if aerosols —> use something else, and ‘masks’ were drafted to play the role of ‘something else’ whether or not they actually work at filtering aerosols. strange

my read is that wieler was told by somebody at some point that masks might work against this one thing, but not at all against this other thing, and he has no clue, and he got these things mixed up.
