They want to eradicate it forever, and are worried that if treatment is an option, populations will be less interested in eradication.
I agree this isn‘t very rational, I think it was also all set in motion circa March 2020, with enough momentum there‘s been no adjusting course since.

the whole thing seems extremely evil to me. but it‘s also like environmentalism: there‘s a long line of grifters and opportunists trying to bend it towards their own purposes. i find it extremely hard to work out, which actors are primary.
