It's just hard to overstate how completely batshit crazy a year's worth of bonkers reporting has made a certain kind of right-thinking, generally femael, ecologically conscious, middle-aged German. These people have lost all contact with normal human behaviour.

That's what I think. For North America, this whole thing, corona, masks, shutdowns, vaccination hysteria, George Floyd, woke, CRT, transvestitism, the election, trump just gave them permission.
There's panic but I think luxury beliefs also play a role. Saying that we should all mask and WFH forever and socialize with a small number of people costs you almost zero if you have a job you can do from home and a long-term partner/children to cover your social needs.
