I'm surprised CDU, any mainstream parties gained votes - if locking you in your house, taking away your job, closing Churches doesn't lose support of normal people, what would?
While the hard lockdown was ongoing, it was terrible for CDU. But htey're doing a lot better now that we have halfway reopened and there is the false impression that we are nearing the end of this, rather than just in a summer lull.

Seems similar to battered wife or abused kid; if someone who has treated you well for long period of time suddenly hurts you viciously, it takes time to realize that they want to do you harm + aren't your friend - initially people blame themselves, double down on their affection
