Novel viruses that put early patients in the hospital, but weren‘t able to spread further in that environment, went nowhere. There is something subtle and complex about the transmission of Corona that we do not understand. It does not behave like other respiratory viruses.

If you imagine that the initial infections all happen among researchers who immediately seek medical care, it‘s easy to see how hospital hygiene practices would represent a formidable selection hurdle all these viruses have to overcome.
