excellent engineering decision for smoke-alarm makers to set up the ‘my battery is low’ chirps such that they’re really far apart and seemingly intermittent in frequency. which one is chirping? who knows, make the homeowner work for it!

I’ve been in that kind of situation and basically had to use a broom handle to smash the alarm

They were - and I swear this true - somehow networked with each other, so they'd alll beep, but only one of them had the battery issue. Also they did this weird flashing thing. I had to tiptoe precariously on a ladder to literally rip one out of the ceiling.
