Everybody wants to live in a romantic castle — until they meet all the spiders, pigeons, bats, and other annoying pests living there, too.
The old German expression, "zu frieren wie ein Schlosshund", comes to mind here. And not only is the heating poor, everything from electrical sockets to plumbing is a problem, often available in weird places or in only a few retrofitted rooms.
