The difference between a grocery store strawberry and a pick-your-own strawberry is so extreme that they might as well not even be the same thing.
I was going to add a wild strawberry caveat but it struck me that wasn‘t an unpopular opinion.
One of the things we always did was go to the strawberry farm and pick like 100 pounds of strawberries in early July. Freeze em, jam em, strawberry shortcake for weeks. Fruit that is actually ripe is a different level.
