In Spring 2020, a Corona field hospital was built on exhibition grounds just outside Berlin, with facilities for 500 Covid patients, should city hospitals fill up. Nobody has ever been treated there. It will finally be dismantled in September.https://www.rbb24.de/politik/thema/corona/beitraege/2021/06/berlin-corona-krankenhaus-messegelaende-abbau.html …

Canadian news uses the same arguement about ICU reaching max capacity, of all the lies I dont understand why anyone believes this They've had a year to prepare and increase capacity, if there is a shortage it speaks to imcompentence of the healthcare industry

Exactly, if this is the reason to lock down, states would mobilise to provide emergency capacity. In Germany that was only ever done (halfheartedly) in the 1st wave, then it was reversed, but they kept using the argument.

The only covid hospital actually set up in Italy was the one in Milano-Fiera, treated only 500 patients in a year+ Costed only 21million euros, they could have set one up in each medium sized town for a tiny fraction of the cost of lockdowns

In DE they complain about staff shortages in hospitals then call in the army ... to do completely worthless contact tracing.

I've heard the argument covid is much more staff intensive than other diseases several times but all they seem to be doing is hooking ppl up to oxygen machines 24/7 and give them a basic cocktail of meds not sure how that's care intensive

Complaints about staff shortages in DE hospitals go back years and have nothing to do with Corona. Additional shortages were caused by administrative decisions, because hospitals were forced to set up dedicated / isolated Corona-only wards.

It appears they overestimated how many beds were necessary in these wards, so a) there was reduced capacity for non-Corona patients, while Corona patients were admitted at insane rates (some of highest in Europe) to ICU to fill up all the empty beds ...

... Then ICU staff appeared every night on the news complaining about how overworked they were. The whole thing was top to bottom a farce of mismanagement and media stupidity.
