Germany is just now emerging from a 7-month lockdown, which was promoted to the populace on the basis that our healthcare facilities were near breaking point. In truth, we spent much of fall 2020 scaling back excess capacity and emergency facilities like this were never used.

Canadian news uses the same arguement about ICU reaching max capacity, of all the lies I dont understand why anyone believes this They've had a year to prepare and increase capacity, if there is a shortage it speaks to imcompentence of the healthcare industry

Exactly, if this is the reason to lock down, states would mobilise to provide emergency capacity. In Germany that was only ever done (halfheartedly) in the 1st wave, then it was reversed, but they kept using the argument.

Same for cities in the US. A family member helped set up one of those field hospitals in Massachusetts, & it never saw a single patient...
