What does it gain the scholar by reading the classics in the original language? What is the scholar losing by not reading the bible in the original Hebrew?
Do all Hebrew scholars learn Akkadian and Old Aramaic, or do we just require knowledge of languages from the prior tradition when it‘s somehow ‚western‘. Classicists don‘t study the Septuagint, generally, at all. They‘re not even dealing in texts translated from the Hebrew.
