Last year, there was a plausible theory - based largely on lower transmissibility of Corona in mask-happy Asia - that mask mandates would do something. That theory has been totally destroyed by the entirety of our experience with mask mandates since. Masks do zero.

I accept this result. And also accept that voluntary vaccination is helpful.

Similarly, there is the fact that some are conscientious regarding the prevention measures. The advice regarding masks should be targeted to them and only them.

Is it that *masks* do nothing, or *mask mandates* do nothing? If mask wearing largely unrelated to mask mandates (people started wearing them before the mandates and kept wearing them after), then masks may still have an impact while mandates don't really.
