This was criminal. All the procedures were done to maximise nursing staff convenience. There is long history of this though, negative pressure ventilators (the "iron lung") were far superior to PPV, but phased out because they were inconvenient and took up more space

Yes, in this case it's primarily significant because it's mostly where the image of Corona as a super deadly disease come from.

Also, I suspect in some twisted way it's at the root of all those dancing nurse videos, which came out en masse after the carnage became apparent in early April
