Don't you allow for the possibility that progress will help us overcome those instincts or at least better control them? I am very aware of mass psychology and see it on display in the financial markets every day but I still believe that we can progress beyond that stage.
No, we are at base animals and bound to nature as all animals are. Nor should we want to change these fundamental aspects of ourselves, which are part of being human.

This view is based on the brief history of our species. Former species have been much more animals like. Progress is going in the direction of more intelligent descision making and less instincts. Don't you agree?
