It’s like all those brilliant internet arguments about how masks would allow us to end lockdowns and return to some version of our prior life, but masks don’t do anything so now we just wear masks and we have lockdowns and everything else. We are dying of solutions here.

Now I have to fill out little forms everywhere I go, AND we have lockdowns, AND we have masks, AND we have antigen tests. AND ALSO the neo-Stasi 19 year-old tracers periodically drop in with total knowledge of my movements threatening to declare me a Class 2 contact or whatever.
The next time some internet math person tries to solve the pandemic, they should be indicted by competent authorities for conspiring to destroy civilisation. I don’t care how smart it sounds, it will just be One More Useless Tiresome Thing That Will Never Go Away.
We are driven towards the chilling and mind-blowing conclusion that it is the sheer implementation of the measures that matters, above and beyond any effect they have. The measures matter in themselves, not instrumentally. This is piety not engineering: means have become ends.
