if you have to use a machine indoors, stationary bicycles are much, much better (both for safety and your knees), and can be picked up for cheap at a salvation army or something
and if you have a bike with quick-release wheels, it's even easier, you can get one of those trainer stands

I have a crap road bike I stopped seriously riding and I only use it for the trainer. Why are they sketchy will I fall over or something.
