Is there any chance AfD surge and challenge the status quo either by surpassing CDU or by pushing them to the right? I'm asking this from my total ignorance of German politics.
AfD not doing too well, attempts to lend the party more centrist appeal have backfired (as intended). CDU voters are mostly defecting to the greens, the FDP is picking up some crumbs.
Germany seems to be more leftwing than I thought, then. I understand the appeal of making your message more palatable to the normie, but it ultimately tends to fail.
Greens are obv a left party, but there‘s strong segment of the conservative-lite electorate who waver between centre-right CDU & Green candidates, a style of politics favoured by state media outlets and all the vacant boomers who think Merkel is wonderful
