Ernst Nolte's thesis (first fully stated in 1986) that what is called the Holocaust should be seen as a defensive reaction of the Germans against Soviet communism - ie, an effort to eliminate those sectors of society that would be most receptive to the Soviet message.

This makes sense both in the thesis and reaction. Is it not a dangerous idea for a thread in the context of your local laws, or does it not count as denial, since it's about motivations rather than actions?

Yes, and it would be doubly safe to merely talk about other people's ideas. It's just as well, though. It's probably a better topic for a long-form essay, where I also don't have to worry about malicious opportunists reporting out-of-context tweets, etc
