Don't personally know any old Germans but how much of this is media divide and conquer, and how much of this is 'will of the (old) people' being executed?
It’s both. The olds are primary consumers of state media and evening news programs, where Corona hysteria is constant, and targeted precisely at all their anxieties.
But many of the older and more conservative ones also have a sense of duty and would be fine with staying home to protect their children.
Same in sweden (and rest of west i assume). Can't really blame the old for being abandoned by their families and brainwashed by their warden the state.
