‘Masks may not help, but I still wear one to show respect’ You know what shows no respect to people? Imposing compulsory behavior on them that demonstrates zero observable efficacy at the thing it’s supposedly helping.

I propose we show respect to each other by not wearing pointless ineffective apparatus that signals our fear that everyone we interact with is contaminated in some way.

I’ve been appalled at the gratitude subordinates at work (& other service personnel) express when I signal I don’t care about masks & they can forget the whole thing Labourers, delivery personnel, & even cleaning staff, struggle with these stupid bureaucratic regulations ...

... which conflict with elementary aspects of their job. all the while they’ve also faced inordinate exposure to Corona and many of them have acquired immunity. All of mass containment, but masking especially, has an awful flavour of oblivious elite privilege about it.
