      I always found it mildly funny when US-Americans told me that they were German when, to me as a German, it is a rather strange idea to think of it as some sort of ethnicity/heritage rather than a nationality.

      "I always found it funny when other people consider themselves members of a noble lineage, while I live in their ancestral seat and am therefore queen" is an insult. It's basically the straw man for "cultural appropriation" being bad.

      His response suggests that he shouldn't be on the internet, however. The social world is broken right now, but getting angry on-line is never the right move. Anger is an incredible source of energy, but diverting it to social media is masterbatory.

      Made this point elsewhere, but: Upshot of saying you can become German, is that it‘s a lower caste & you‘re of higher extraction. (Higher castes typically enjoying the capacity to opt in to lower ones) This also explains eigen-robot‘s response: Imagine gatekeeping as a GERMAN.
