Governments are wrong to arrogate to themselves responsibility for the control of weather, or (but it is the same thing) of viral infection. We live in nature; like all creatures, we have a limited influence upon it. That does not mean our political structures can control it.

I think you've brought this up, but what are the chances that they are following a planned "playbook" that was designed for a true pandemic scenario and the reason we feel this dissonance is that Covid is not as dangerous as they wanted or needed it to be... hence the propaganda.

Of course, under this scenario, I assume the people in power only care about themselves and getting more power, hence, the idea of an authoritarian playbook that most countries are following.

I don‘t know. I think it‘s important to dress up the evidence we have in as many different theories as possible, & remain open to all of them. Also, I think whatever the reason, the key point is that they overreacted, and that explains most of what‘s happened since then.
