This explains the great reversal in ‚scientific‘ opinion that happened in late March/April 2020. Mass containment was becoming a useful political doctrine at this time, and many ambitious ‚scientists‘ began singing the tune demanded of them.

      eugyppius Retweeted Corona Realism  🟢

As late as March 2020, key NoCovid superstar virologist Melanie Brinkmann (close advisor to Merkel gvt and pervasive presence on German tv) were advocating a mild, mitigationist approach to Corona, entirely in line with things like the Great Barrington Declaration.https://twitter.com/holmenkollin/status/1381610268069871620 …

You think Brinkmann changed her mind because new research suddenly accumulated within the space of a few weeks in April of last year? Nothing could be more implausible. Only political winds shift that suddenly.

"We don't know the long term effects of this coronavirus, it may do anything!" Say the experts who have been studying viruses their whole lives and are now being paid to coerce you. I'm not virologist but how many times have we heard this and it doesn't sound true-

There is no other field of knowledge I'm aware of where past information would not have given a true expert enough information to take effective action. For this and many other similar reasons, I think you are right. This is very much political, and these experts need canceling.

All kinds viruses infect humans, including very likely many unidentified ones. Of the four „normal“ human coronaviruses known to infect humans, two weren‘t even discovered until 2004/5. No similar panic over „novel“ viruses with unknown sequelae. This is an entirely fake fear.

MERS is somewhere like 30% fatal and it also isn't a geriatric-focused virus. SARS just didn't spread as much either. This one is clearly more contagious, but my whole skepticism is this isn't about saving lives. It can't be. At best, it's about saving power structures.

MERS has very low attack rate (except among camels) outside hospitals, SARS was also largely hospital illness, and even SarsCov2 does most of its killing in institutions. but yes, I just meant long-term mysterious sequelae aren‘t a topic of morose speculation for any other virus

to be honest, i think this started out with humanitarian concerns, at least in some quarters, but the politicians overreacted & painted themselves into a corner. now because of their own heedless & stupid propaganda ...

... lockdowns are politically demanded when infections rise, & the regime bears responsibility for infections/deaths if they‘re not implemented (when these same deaths happen regardless, it‘s anonymous rule-breakers who are blamed).

That‘s like 80% of it. The other 20% is scary behind-the-curtains bureaucratic sociopaths with various schemes to accumulate power.
