Western political orthodoxy holds that Corona infections, once they begin to rise, will continue upwards indefinitely, unless they are countered by mass containment measures; and conversely, that if infections are declining, the reason must be containment.
If infections rise despite containment, that is only because people are disobeying the restrictions. The rising infections themselves prove as much. This set of circular, mutually reinforcing doctrines had only one weak point: Infections cannot be seen to recede autonomously.
