what's weird is how even many of the people who basically buy that the Wuhan virus was a lab-leak haven't really internalized that what it means is that this pandemic was, in effect, caused by the scientific/technocrat obsession with 'fighting pandemics'

already see lots of takes regarding how this or that lesson is important for 'the next pandemic' this kind of pandemic is treated as an inevitability. and, perhaps it is. but the Wuhan virus is not a case in point. the Wuhan pandemic was essentially self-induced

and just broader perspective: since SARS in 2003, bat coronaviruses became a huge topic of research in virology, and bat coronavirus outbreaks in humans have become semi-regular phenomenon. We know about MERS (transferred to humans from bats, a few years before 2012) ...
