Corona, we are told, is the challenge of the century, and yet in this great struggle against a respiratory pathogen, all of our units at the front (vaxx centres, contact tracers, the entire diagnostic apparatus) relax their efforts over weekends and holidays.

This war rhetoric irriates me to no end. It appears like we're at an actual WAR with a virus- which, of course, can never be defeated, only barely contained. However, all of this is somewhat strange, since our dear leaders react to real acts of (asymmetrical) war with appeasement
Not only that, the war metaphor is a false one. If we were truly at war with Corona, the strong and the young would fight and defeat it with their bodies (immune systems). Instead we try to hide from it and lie to ourselves that this is some kind of war, while we only retreat.

Now we know how Merkel would've fought a real war- by retreating and bombing the own population. At least we wouldn't have lost by defeat.
