personal thread. When the lockdowns were first enacted, and the Free State of Bavaria did all it could to forbid me from working, I had this idea I‘d train my ass off. Get back up to 130+km/ week, fine tune my diet, maybe even win some local races when things opened up.

Well, things didn‘t open up. But Bavaria still didn‘t want me to work. Also, weirdly, it turns out athletic motivation and social interaction (for me at least) are intertwined, so 2+ hours a day of hard running never happened. It’s been a year of enforced idleness.

I‘ve never trained so little in my adult past, as I‘ve trained under the forever lockdown. Less than 100km of running a week would’ve been unthinkable. I‘ve gotten unfit, but also the idleness has clouded my mind. In December I decided to address this.

it definitely feels instinctive. i think training is stress and the social isolation signals an emergency, which means you conserve resources, don‘t train, and eat as much as possible.
