Almost all Corona infections happen indoors, and yet every country enamoured of mass containment insists that people spend inordinate amounts of time indoors and places heavy restrictions on going outside.

It just doesn't matter. I cannot think of any other pandemics in the past where the messaging to treat it as worse than the plague has such a firm hold, and significant number of people in support of mass lockdowns!

I mean the amount of vigour expended in demanding people stay in could be better put to demanding a speed up of vaccines, approvals, or literally a whole host of other common sense things, other than lockdowns. But no.

Even 1918, about 10x as bad as Corona in terms of outright mortality, much worse in terms of life-years lost (many deaths among young) was handled with enormous restraint. There were some municipal school closures and people were concerned, but nothing even close to this
