Some subset of the urban upper-middle-class population of NYC appears to believe that the entire city is always within about a decade of disappearing under the sea. At least I get this impression from talks with friends / former students there.

There is something unreal about belief in climate science, a set of radical doctrines people subscribe to, which however drive them only to acts of superficial signalling. Nobody ever behaves like it‘s real.

If it were real, would you offshore manufacturing? You‘d want to keep it at home to monitor emissions as closely as possible. Also, you‘d literally *nuke other countries into the stone age* to stop their emissions and give you space to emit indefinitely for your population.

Instead the policy response is lame grifter wind farms and burning imported garbage and getting boomers to put solar panels on their roofs.
