Lockdowns determine Science. Politicians want lockdowns, and so Science will speak of nothing but Long Covid, reinfections, and B117. As soon as politicians no longer want lockdowns, Science will finally shut up about these stupid things. But not a minute before.

policies shape the incentives and research agenda of careerist scientists, in matters of public health in particular.
thus countries w/ similar policies end up with similar Science, namely one which magnifies the risks of Corona & the effectiveness of NPIs. Countries that don‘t end up with somewhat difft Science (to extent any academic divergence is possible in the intellectually uniform west)

I am saying Science can‘t, and doesn‘t even want to. lowercase science can yield useful observations to some degree, in a vastly more limited and culturally bound way than is generally appreciated.
