As a continent, Africa got spared the most from Covid. This is interesting because on the whole they have proportionally the fewest doctors and hospitals, and, this contrasts starkly with how black people got hit the hardest by Covid in America. What do you suppose happened here

latitude seems to correlate with severity of Corona infections and mortality in general, so there must be some sunlight effect. also observed with influenza, where Hope-Simpson posited the same thing. vitamin D as modulator of immune response seems to be explanation.

would also be why, as in the OP, dark-skinned people in northern regions (chronically vit D-deficient) have a much worse time than their co-ethnics in home countries further south.
