The worst is when the call lags and you can't hang up immediately, and hope they didn't get a missed call.

Just hold your touch on the number for like 2 secs, and a menu will pop up that lets you send a message directly without the call/hang up thing

Also just go to messaging and type in the number in the “to” field. My gripe is that leaving someone a FaceTime video message should be frictionless.
