This was a great read @lakens ! You made some excellent points. Especially regarding the relevance of range effect predictions. Do you plan on submitting a formal commentary? I think you should.

Nah - some years ago I decided to respond less to what others do, and focus more on solving things I think are real problems. Maybe if this paper has a lot of impact 5 years from now, but currently I doubt it.
