Police violence, censorship, repression, hundreds of injust accusations, politicians in exile or in prison (no trial) on invented charges... does this keep Catalonia out of the 'problems' to discuss?! It should be number one topic in any talks with Spain.

And what about the elephant in the room, Donald? Are you going to face the fact that your colleague on the left holds political prisoners and hides behind a corrupt and authoritarian judiciary to oppress the democratic process in Catalonia? No time for justice at
#EUCO? -
Catalonia is a part of Spain, and thus not another EU member state. The EU cannot interfere in domestic affairs in a member country. In this case the member country is Spain. Read the Lisbon Treaty.
-
You mean to say that a member state can treat its citzens and national minorities however it wants and the EU should not intervene because it's a "domestic affair"? So EU citizen rights in that treaty was just rhetorical wish-wash?
-
Straw-man's argument! ... so I am not going to answer more than this
-
How can a question be a "straw man argument"? Look, if you don't want to argue with me, it's perfectly reasonable. Just don't hide behind incoherent pseudological maneuvering, please. All the best.
-
The strawman is that I was to defend what you had made up in the 1st sentence). That is not that you can read in Article 5(2) of the Lisbon treaty: : http://www.lisbon-treaty.org/wcm/the-lisbon-treaty/treaty-on-european-union-and-comments/title-1-common-provisions/9-article-5.html … The important text in A5(2) " ... maintaining law and order ..." meaning that it's Spanish Law .
-
I'm not making anything up. Art. 5(2) is pple of subsidiarity. But read Part II TEU, where it talks of citizens rights and non-discrimination. Are you interpreting the treaty as giving no powers whatsoever to the EU to intervene when those rights are violated by a member state?

Catalonia does not come to your mind? Political prisoners in a EU-country? Human rights abuses? It is time to act.
