At long last, the work that has consumed the last 3+ years of my life has been accepted for publication! You can read the full thing at this link, but here is a summary in 10 tweets/pics. Ultimate TL;DR: we discovered hundreds of new planets! 1/10

Any undergrads want a paid summer internship at ? Our group is looking for 5 awesome people to help us find and study planets with TESS. I can nearly guarantee you'll discover a new exoplanet if you want to work on the search side! It's a thrill that never fades!

This is a beautiful result! Radius gap across different parts of the sky! Who's going to be the first to give us the TESS radius gap?

NEW PAPER ALERT! "Scaling K2. I. Revised Parameters for 222,088 K2 Stars and a K2 Planet Radius Valley at 1.9 R⊕" (soon in ApJS!) This is the first paper in the "Scaling K2" series, with the ultimate goal of computing planet occurrence rates. But...

Ugh, TIL I fundamentally misunderstood what CDPP is supposed to be measuring in a light curve. Thanks for the relatively clear explainer in the 2012 paper. Turns out a pure white noise light curve *shouldn't* have the same CDPP at all timescales.

We're approaching 20 continuous years of at least one human in space thanks to (will happen Nov 2, 2020). I live under a landing path to BWI and see planes constantly, prompting this thought: when was the last time all humans were on the ground? No planes/blimps?

. Sector 19 data is here, and it's by far the cleanest, quietest sector we've had in months. Makes for a boring video but great science! No release notes yet, but just very minor scattered light and a slight mishap on Dec 21 missing a cadence.

If you use TESScut... the service is having problems, discontinue use. Remember that both lightkurve and eleanor packages have functions that depend on TESScut.

I'm happy to release v0.4 of my code, approxposterior! approxposterior is an open-source Python package for efficient approximate Bayesian inference and Bayesian optimization of computationally-expensive models. Check it out on GitHub:

I miss baseball. It's 71 degrees, I have all my windows open enjoying fresh air. I don't care if it's January 11, by all the laws of nature when weather is this nice, I ought to have a or game to watch.

Update: Randy Kryn and Meli thev have officially changed the Wikipedia link and added some text about the awesome new name. Last step is to find & replace all the LSST -> VRO in the body of the article.

Bravo to Wikipedia user Randy Kryn for mentioning the rechristening already. But I wonder when they'll change the link name and all LSST -> VRO in the text. Anyone at want to open a laptop at the bar and make the changes themselves? 😜

"Hello, world(s)!" I am extremely excited to share my *first* first author paper in which we present the discovery of 3 new planets, TOI-700 b, c, and d. TOI-700 d is TESS's first Earth sized planet in the habitable zone of its host star!

NASA’s TESS discovered its first Earth-size planet in a star’s habitable zone, the range of distances where conditions may be just right to allow the presence of liquid water on the surface. followed up and confirmed it.

Not clear who's behind this account, but it has great potential! Break up your 2020 timeline of political despair with a year-long geology/astronomy/biology lesson and learn about the crazy history of our planet.

A year on from 's first data release, we're really starting to fill out the sky! Just a shame the scattered light caused some sectors to shift north and break the symmetry.

Happy holidays from ! Let's unwrap its gift of sector 18! Some Earthshine at the ends of orbits, but the new event this sector is a shutdown for an eclipse at the start of the sector. 6 hours in Earth's shadow without power or data. 😱 ☀️🌎⚫️🛰️

Previously, our grants and fellowships weren't "earned income" (put on a W2) so we couldn't contribute to any IRAs. "(Sec. 106) The bill treats stipends and non-tuition fellowships as compensation for purposes of the retirement savings tax deduction."
