    Yes. It is probably better to describe RCP 4.5 as the vision shown by the Ghost of Christmas’ Future. This is the future if we continue to do nothing but let market forces and long term “ambitions” by politicians pass as climate action. If we want a different future, it’s on us.

    Who do we know here on Twitter who has studied the devolution of freight rail and passenger rail in the US during the 1950s to 1970s? Not perfect parallels to the future of O&G, but maybe close. E.g., O&G could easily go bankrupt while we still need their products.

    Stranded assets in fossil fuel companies: The main FT article is good, but no worries if u can’t see it; Lewis’s references are also good. Bottom line: it’s a little scary and certainly will be messy as these giant dinosaurs go down.

    Short thread as stranded assets go mainstream in the Lex column today. The key point is that it is not just a question of the volumes that get strandded, but the lower price you get for the residual volumes you are still able to sell under a given carbon budget. 1/n
