    Deep learning is maybe the most mystifying thing that's happened in tech. Getting it to work is a lot of poking around in the dark. No consensus on why it works or breaks. No real traction on the philosophy of mind problems it raises. And yet we use it, increasingly, everywhere.

    Saw the same for edu/gov and big corporations across EU. I remember pharma and gov entities which used the last 2 octets of their public B-Range to identify their assets. No RFC1918 in place at all (hey who rebooted ‚16.245‘?). All Firewalling was done w/o NAT.

    It was very common at UK unis. My desktop at Imperial College 2003-2004 had a public IP and no firewalling!

    This isn’t backed by statistical data but I see level 1 analysts pinging user names after a 3 week ethical hacking crash course earning 65k while legions of offsec pros spent weeks on research, tooling & CONs. I’d assume a shortage of defsec & oversupply of offsec labour.

    seems that somehow picked up that idea :)

    I’m no pen tester, but if I was, I’d simply drop cross-platform payloads on these and put them in conference rooms. Even the most cautious of folks will execute just about anything to get their slide deck up in time.
