I probably would have jumped as well had I suspected the towers would collapse. At least family would have a positive id.

Tragically at the speed that they fell there was almost nothing left to identify.
although I do believe I read somewhere that they had used DNA testing to identify some of them when possible. Horrific. I can’t even imagine. -
Yea idk f that day. It gets harder for me every year.

I'm watching The Falling Man right now. I can never get thru it without breaking down. It's heartbreaking watching what ppl were forced to do.When I see Football players Taking a Knee during our National Anthem it makes me sick. They obviously have never watched this.

This picture brings back the sorrow and disbelief of that awful day 17 years ago.

Thank you for the amazing article and photo. This pulls forward so many emotions. The horror and tragedy of 9/11, but also the bravery and freedom. We should never forget and never stop remembering even the most difficult images of that day.

An image of humanity as harrowing today as it was 17 years ago - powerfully written, an article that's left me reflecting on my very human need to just know. We forget these events and these individuals at our peril.

It eats me up inside to think what those inside the buildings where going through. It must of been hell on earth and for someone to feel the need to jump instead of remaining in there is gut wrenching.
-
I saw in a 9/11 documentary, a priest say that he likes to think that at that moment when people were about to jump that maybe God allowed them to see a beautiful sea of blue water, like they were jumping into Paradise, whether u believe in God or not, it is a nice thought!

-
I'm a non-beliver myself especially when atrocities like this are done in the name of god. However i would find great comfort in knowing that if at that point the individual was at peace beliving that. Utterly harrowing circumstances

This still shocks me now. This is the image I think of when remembering 9/11. It’s as distressing now as it was then.
-
Agreed, this picture hit the hardest for me & still does.
-
He knew it before the rest knew. There was nothing he could do.

-
A horrendous decision to have to make, I imagine them having to choose between the heat/fire and jumping. Hideous....

-
Yeah... that's a decision that takes the most amount of courage

i can't help but find it a little gross to bring some bland artistic value over someone falling to their death? This whole article sounded like some fake poetic fetishism over people dying.
