Anyway, I guess the intent of this campaign was to say that Will has no business criticizing SSC people who are flirting with race science and neoreactionaries like Curtis Yarvin, who was particularly incensed with Will's SSC piece.

But it doesn't work for me because I don't care about what Will thought 25 years ago unless it has some bearing on what he thinks now. I appreciate it when people interrogate their ideologies and shift them as a result. It's exceedingly rare.

It's even rarer for people to admit that they're wrong about things publicly, especially if what they were wrong about is embarrassing. I've written about growing up Evangelical in a reactionary community and shifting leftward over 20 years myself.

It's uncomfortable! Humiliating, sometimes. I'd certainly prefer that I have a narrative where I arrived pristinely progressive out of the womb, but that's not how a lot of us start out.
