Had a bunch of DMs that were dangerous spam and was like "how did these get past moderation?" then I realized I wasn't on the Mastodon tab of my Rambox and it was Twitter and of COURSE it's full of spam.

BIGGEST TIPS FOR HAVING A GOOD-TIME ON MASTODON - Check with a friend who knows Mastodon while picking an instance - Don't use the official app. Use the website or a 3rd party one - Use #hashtags! Post them. Search them. Find people - Found people? Follow people! Make friends

Ok I needed to like, close Hive because the app experience is just too mushy for me. I folks bounce off mastodon because the signup is confusing and the official app is trash, but lord are the third party apps for Mastodon more responsive and easier to find things in than Hive

As far as “doing the social medias on my phone” is going, I think I’m strongly preferring Metatext’s (for Mastodon) UI to Hive’s. It’s a little easier to find what I’m looking for, and posts are clearly delineated. Hive’s UI is slick but also everything blends together!

I'm a little sad looking at Hive's business model. A lot of folks are snapping over there, but it looks like it's designed to encourage the same kind of extractive interactions this place pushes people towards. Whereas mastodon, for me at least, has been a place for connections
