Non-black journalists complaining about how it is unfair that the Garners want to share their story with black journalists should just ask the black person in their newsroom to ask for comment - unless their newsroom doesn’t have a black journalist ...

It’s not that complicated. When I covered crime, on more than one occasion a woman experiencing trauma told me she’d rather talk to a reporter who was a woman. She had that right and I respected and honored that.
-
It is a PRIVILEGE that people choose to share their stories with us. We’re not entitled to their stories. Considering how often the media misrepresents marginalized communities in our coverage, we should be grateful they even pick up the phone when we call much less talk to us.

“Scholars have long documented how news & opinion media warp public perceptions of gender and race by reinforcing myths and stereotypes about women and people of color. And they play a dangerous role in spreading debunked stereotypes about black families.”https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2017/12/29/a374a268-ea6d-11e7-8a6a-80acf0774e64_story.html …

Thats racist
-
Stop talking about which you know nothing
-
i know what being racist is, and that’s exactly what this tweet is! racist!
-
Say the white people who know nothing about self care and black people needing space from white people right now.
-
That was racist. imagine if a whites person said they need space from black people. there is a double standard. Reverse racism is real.
-
Not in a system that prioritizes the safety of white people, resulting in harm non-white people. After a tragedy that is a direct result of this dynamic, please try to be more empathetic and give space. Just because you're personally insulted doesn't mean you're right.
-
oh i’m sorry please show me one example of institutional racism that exists in America that leads to the prioritization of the safety of white people? i’ll wait.

Racism is racism, whether or not it’s targeted against POC.
-
Respect is respect. This is not about the allies. This is about respecting the family's request to keep their grieving place safe.
-
I don’t respect people who discriminate, but maybe that’s just me.
-
Again- requesting a safe place to grieve is not a racist attack. Seek first to understand. If you won't try then it's best to stay silent in this moment.
-
White journalists not welcome. Black journalists are. Out of "respect"? No, sorry. This is divisive & yes, racist. Rise above it. Our eternal souls have no skin color. We're all the same race: Human.
-
I'm a white woman and am aware of my privilege. Her father was murdered in broad day light BECAUSE of his race. Yes- we can aspire to a global oneness and equality beyond race & even feel that way ourselves - but the feelings of oppression POC have experienced isn't just erased

It’s fun to copy and paste huh
