    why do people think librarians are “cute” and developers are “geniuses”? i’m trying to build & advocate for systems that protect your right to surveillance free information while so called geniuses are transforming every last iota of communication into the biometrics of control

    Platform design suggests that which is popular must also be knowledge. Designers will tweak the results slightly so that it appears curated, but they invest little in surfacing knowledge. In fact, the opposite is true. Knowledge often has a subscription fee.

    How did we get here? Knowledge is expensive to make, reproduce, & distribute. It requires immense labor and planning. Think of the library and the chain of production that underlie the materials, books, shelves, computers; the work of organization w/ a theory of curation. Staff!
