    Was interesting to take a look at the sound mirror east of the other day. An early 20thC military experiment of minimal use. As describes it, sound mirrors are an excellent example of 'dead-end technology'.

    It was muddy but worth it walking the today from Dover to Folkestone! This stretch of the coast has been militarised for so many centuries that the de-militarisation - begun in earnest in the 1960s - seems to have had only a minor impact so far.
