I have a heart-to-heart with every employee before we hire: “No politics here. None. I don’t care what your beliefs are. Don’t bring it to the office.” It resonates with most. They’re over politics dominating discourse at the workplace, regardless of individual beliefs.

Not letting people talk about what matters to them diminishes meaning and purpose in the workplace even further. “Politics is the opiate of the masses” is a truly insane inversion of that aphorism. Shkreli or Dick Fuld could have said that.

This is the inherent nature of politics: one must benefit at the expense of the other. It is either control the Leviathan or be controlled by it. Once the Leviathan becomes powerful enough to control the whole society. (Which was the initial problem).
