Low hit rate & plenty of adverse selection for sure...although it worked out for Garrett & Ev! - Još 2 druga odgovora

Extremely bearish on this. Enough empirical evidence now to know this has barely worked. It’s extremely hard because of structural reasons and randomness in startups.

Do you think that IDEO CoLab is doing this well? This seems to be their model right now. It feels very different than conventional VC.
-
I’ve studied Idea Colab and I agree, they operate fundamentally different than a traditional VC form but not too out of the box to be labeled as anything other than a VC firm. Very interesting business model.

It's a nice idea but the exit data suggests incubators are less efficient than traditional VC E.g http://tymbals.com/incubators.html
-
In the end it becomes a numbers game so long as you hit the 135 startup threshold (pref 150) your odds as an investor of randomly picking an outlier (or 3) improve significantly But it is a bad deal for the start ups because their odds of achieving an exit are significantly less
