I repeated my request in the clearest tone I could assume. But in quite as clear a one came the previous reply, “I would prefer not to.”

. The main KP iphone app asks me what region I live in, then offers no indication that I'm supposed to be using A WHOLE DIFFERENT APP just because I live in Washington -- just says it can't find me as a user. Took a long time on the phone to figure this out

It is time for a thread on traditional urbanism, or town planning 13th century style. I will dispel some myths of modern dis-urbanism.

Sucks how "don't squander nonrenewable resources" and "don't let your employees rest" both get lumped under the heading of "efficiency."

But now that the stability of home ownership and long-term employment have both evaporated, so too has our relationship with possessions changed. Hardly anyone I know wants *things* anymore. Things take up space and add cognitive overhead.

My position on argumentation is often sourced from a phrase I read in a Japanese book: 'Always remember that to argue, and win, is to break down the reality of the person you are arguing against. It is painful to lose your reality, so be kind, even if you are right.'

I guess that is what the gift of John Mahoney's Martin Crane was. A character who could have been Archie Bunker 2.0 instead radiated warmth and kindness.

1/OK, time for a thread about nativism. One central belief of nativists is that you can draw conclusions about immigrants from a country by looking at the characteristics of that country. This often (but not always) ends up being pretty racist.
