This is not, as it was apparently seen, a "teaching moment." This is a moment when a member of the board advocated for the inclusion of people perpetuating violence against scholars of color. #MedievalTwitter

This is not the case of one bad apple in an organization The board's failure to address this as the violent statement that it was shows that this is a systemic problem within the organization. The board's actions have already shown that they have not taken racism seriously.

I have withdrawn my membership from ISAS, and will be withdrawing my article from the forthcoming ISAS Hawaii anthology. I cannot in good conscience be associated with an organization that does not take seriously racist statements, death threats against POC, and sexual predators.

I am still reeling from this statement and I'm just.... It perhaps shouldn't surprise and make me recoil since it is the modus operandi of many an organisation, but there's a certain horror to saying the quiet bit out loud that makes is worse. Because the masks are off & all.

THAT is the appropriate reaction! It's horrific. But she's denied it and white people are asking us all to stop the "personal attacks," so it's going about how you'd expect.

Wait, what? No organization should be "inclusive to racists." Thank you for taking a stand.

Are we also supposed to “feel sorry” for those racists, and therefore try to include them? Because that’s been a talking point since at least IMC Leeds 2017.
