Had the pleasure of reading/blurbing 's "After the Blast," which revived my childhood obsession with Mount St. Helens and fortified my desire to visit again in 2020. Recommended for every ecologist, geologist, and PNWer. Thx to & for the book.

Took kiddo to the new today. It was amazing! On the one hand, super cool to see all the Mount St. Helens stuff. But also somewhat sobering to see my entire book essentially summarized in a five-panel infographic. So it goes.

An exceedingly helpful thread that explains better than I could (and did) what I was trying to show in the kittiwake article. As is clear, I was looking over the shoulders of giants as they themselves were peering at itty bitty creatures!

What a lovely account of our work (collaboration with ) by Warming North Sea - one microscopic copepod displacing another - small sandeels staying small longer - Kittiwakes that cannot breed

Eric Wagner () wrote the text for "Once and Future River: Reclaiming the Duwamish" and is author of our forthcoming "After the Blast: The Ecological Restoration of Mount St. Helens." His new essay in The Atlantic - on disappearing seabirds - is also worth your time.

“The ocean is changing faster than our ability to complete the scientific cycle. We’re being shown just how quickly we have to work. The seabirds are disappearing now, and so we have to understand it now.” This story is fascinating. And that art!

Off the coast of Scotland small gulls, called kittiwakes, are disappearing at an alarming rate. To understand why, scientists are turning to models of the tiniest sea life. Eric Wagner reports:

A fun but difficult story to write, as they tend to be these days. But kittiwakes are lovely to watch, and ecological modelers fascinating to listen to.
