I could very well make a long, detailed thread about this but figured I'd spare the discourse + also I can summarize what I wanna say in just a few tweets: WoW: Shadowlands is a very, very good expansion that is unfortunately just not hitting the mark for me right now.

I logged on for the first time in over a month on Sunday, got my weekly quests and callings done in roughly 40 minutes and just did... nothing. I have no drive to run dungeons, raids or PVP. World quests barely exist anymore and I'm all caught up in the story.

Stuff like pursuing Artifact Weapons and unlocking Allied Races just aren't here anymore, and the cool transmog sets I'd like to get is something I can't even do right now because old raid scaling is actually broken and won't be adjusted until the end of this expansion.

I'm aware dungeons/raids/PVP is like... what you do at endgame, but I've been spoiled in the past with alternative routes to progress my characters without having to wrangle up strangers for a chance once per week at getting -something-

I love the art, music and vibe of Shadowlands but dang. I'll likely check back in again to see how things are later, but right now this expansion just isn't hitting for me personally. I want to love it so much, but right now I think a break is needed. I'll be back!

That's how I felt most of the way through BFA. I was just... done? I'm back now but am going to try and RP mostly. It's what I enjoy most and it's not dependent on stuff like raids or iLevel, which removes that pressure on me.

I've actually been thinking about maybe trying out an RP server since I've heard a lot of cool stories about them! I have to imagine its so much stress free not worrying about stats/numbers and just playing the game with people + making your own adventures

It truly has relieved so much of the stress I associated with MMOs for years! LotRO would not have gotten even a quarter of the time and money it has from me if not for the great RP I've experienced over the years. There is social drama and whatnot but I love it anyway.

I remember trying LotRO back when it launched and LOVED IT. What a comfy game that was!

It's prettier than it was back then! I'm constantly impressed (as a Tolkien fan) how well they brought the landscape to life. But mechanically, it's the same game it was in 2009 when Moria launched. But man, I adore it so much. It feels comfy, like you say. Especially the Shire!

I remember the first time I got to Bree and saw a group of people playing a little concert in-game with the music system and it blew my mind! I love the little things like that and always wished that WoW would get instruments to play too! FFXIV has them as well

YES! It is by far one of the best systems and I am so sad more MMOs haven't adopted something similar.
